Why do some things creep us out?

What is it about certain textures that either please or disgust us?
I can't stand the feel of cotton.  So glad pharmacies stopped putting cotton plugs in medicine bottles!  {Stargazer says this is because most pharmaceuticals these days are coated or otherwise encapsulated or hardened.}  There is no longer a layer of pill dust at the bottom of a depleted bottle of pills, the way I remember there being in a bottle of aspirin.

I don't like the feel of velvet either.
Not even pretty green velvet.

It's not only textures.  Seeing an image of honeycomb

creeps me out. Even after making how many Waldorf rolled beeswax candles?  Smells good, though.
